Coating boards of moldes to brick and tiles, tools for pressing for post metalic and high abrasive materials, guides to machines, rulers for milling machine with no center “centerless” pieces for wear caliper, micrometer and general tools, witch request the highest abrasive resistance and cut retantion should be used with 54 to 63 hrc.

D2 steel with high versatility is the first option when d6 or o1 fail for a lack of toughness. Very sensitive in a heat treatment, apply distinct characteristics with the variation of the cycle. Is one of few steels for cold work that when is correctly treated is fit to receive superficial revestiment or nitretation. D2 is used always when wishes the maximum balance between wear resistance and toughness as dies for swage, coining, cut, punshinhg, tools, spin, thread rolled, caliper, between points for lathes etc should be used with hardness from 54 to 63 hrc.
